Pillow Insert Guide

Choosing the Right
Pillow Insert

The right insert helps a decorative pillow cover hold its shape, fill the corners, and achieve the level of softness or fullness you prefer.

As a general guide, square pillow covers usually work best with an insert that is 2 inches larger than the cover size. Lumbar pillow covers often work best with an insert that is 1 to 2 inches larger, depending on the look you want.

How to Measure a Pillow Cover
Pillow cover, pillow insert, and finished decorative pillow

Measure the Cover First

For the most accurate fit, measure the empty pillow cover from seam to seam while it is laid flat. Do not measure a filled pillow, since the insert can change the final shape.

Start with the empty cover size, then choose the insert based on the guide below.
